Your corporate headshot is more than just a picture—it’s your digital handshake. Whether you’re a team of 5 or 500, knowing what to wear can make all the difference in how polished and professional your headshots look.
If you’re getting ready for an on-site headshot day, this guide will help your entire team dress confidently and consistently—without overthinking it.
👔 1. Dress for the Role You Want Represented
Choose outfits that reflect your brand and your role:
Executive teams: Business formal (blazers, dress shirts, blouses)
Creative teams: Smart casual (layers, neat prints, personality)
Tech/startup: Business casual (no hoodies unless they’re branded)
Keep it authentic. Wear what you’d wear to meet a client or represent your company publicly.
🎨 2. Stick to Solid Colors and Avoid Distracting Patterns
Solid colors are timeless and professional. They also photograph beautifully.
Best choices:
Navy, charcoal, forest green, burgundy, beige, white, or light blue
Soft earth tones or pastels for a friendly, approachable look
Avoid:
Busy prints, stripes, logos (unless company-branded)
Shiny or reflective fabrics
Neon or ultra-saturated colors that can cast on your skin
💡 3. Coordinate, But Don’t Match
For team-wide photo days, consider setting a color palette. This keeps everyone looking unified without dressing like a uniformed group.
Example team palette:
Tops in navy, white, or grey
Optional: accent color like soft teal or maroon
Bottoms that aren’t photographed don’t need to match—comfort matters!
Bonus: Share a visual mood board or sample headshots with your team ahead of time.
👕 4. Wear Well-Fitting Clothing
Baggy or tight clothes don’t photograph well. Instead:
Choose outfits that are fitted but comfortable
Steam or iron your shirt or blouse ahead of time
Avoid oversized sleeves, collars, or scarves that bunch
💄 5. Keep Hair, Grooming, and Accessories Simple
This applies to all genders:
Neatly styled hair (bring a comb or brush)
Clean, minimal makeup if worn
Neutral lip balm to avoid dry lips
Simple jewelry (small studs, classic necklaces)
Avoid visible lanyards or fitness trackers
Glasses? Wear them if they’re part of your everyday look. Just clean the lenses and check for glare during the shoot.
👟 6. Shoes Usually Don’t Matter—But Confidence Does
Most corporate headshots are cropped from the chest up. So unless you’re going full-length:
Focus more on your top half and posture
Wear shoes that help you stand confidently—even if they won’t be seen
👥 7. Make it Easy for the Whole Team
If you're organizing a company-wide shoot:
Send out a “What to Wear” PDF or email checklist
Offer sample photos to set expectations
Encourage employees to bring a backup outfit (especially if they’re unsure)
You can even invite a stylist to assist on-site for large headshot days.
